Diplomat who meddled in KBR contracts gets promotion

WASHINGTON, Feb. 17 (Houston Chronicle) -- The former U.S. ambassador to Kuwait who personally intervened to demand that Halliburton Co. sign a controversial contract with a little-known Kuwaiti firm has been chosen to become a special coordinator for Iraq.

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has selected Richard Jones "to help coordinate our policy on Iraq and advise her on our policy in Iraq," State Department spokesman Richard Boucher told reporters earlier this week.
